TRAINING ON SOCIAL SKILLS

DIXIT

Activity’s step-by-step description:
1. Every participant chooses a card. No particular reason or criteria for his/her choice is imposed.
2. Make groups of 4-5 participants.
3. In each group, each participant describes the chosen card and explains what the card inspires to him/her.
Then, each member of the group writes on a post-it a word “defining” the other members of the group (one word on one post-it for each participant of his/her group).
Note: As they do not yet know each other, the words will very often be related to the short descriptions given by the participants earlier.
Hang all the post-its on the wall/board (gather them in one place).
4. Add on the wall sheets with the names of all the people of the workshop (1 per person). Ask the group to associate each post-it note with a name and to justify their choices. All members of the group discuss the possibilities and agree together.
5. Each person sees the post-its on his/her name and can make a comment on the words that have been associated to him/her.

Preparation (what needs to be prepared beforehand to make the activity’s implementation successful):
The interest of the activity lies in the first impression, the image that one gives to others after a short presentation. It is therefore more relevant when the participants do not know each other.
The trainer should make sure that the game cards are laid out on a large table in advance (picture side). There should be sufficient working space for the different groups of participants (max. 5) and a large wall/board or a flip chart.
On this wall/board/flip chart, write the names of all the participants but keep enough space to hang the post-its during the activity (before attributing them to each name).

Evaluation:
The facilitator could ask a few follow-up questions in order to assess the activity’s results:
“ - What did this activity highlight in terms of social skills?
- How did you feel during the activity?
- Have you discovered anything new about yourself? Have you found any unexpected words associated with your name? If so, which ones and why do you find them surprising?”
