The University of Mons welcomes a delegation from Burgundy

The University of Mons welcomed the Dijon academy’s representatives within the framework of the project "MADE in Bourgogne". This "jobshadowing" action took place from 18th to 22nd November under the leadership of the Director of the Institute of School Administration (ISA), Mr. Demeuse.

The ISA team presented the functioning of the French-speaking Belgian education system in the context of a particularly interesting agenda, since the Belgian education system is currently undergoing a complete renovation. Several themes were dealt with during the week, such as school guidance or explicit teaching, two topics developed at the University of Mons in terms of research.

All the Burgundian participants (headmasters, teachers and inspectors), directly concerned by all these topics, particularly appreciated the discussions organized with numerous colleagues during the visits to secondary schools.

These included: the Athénée royal Marguerite Bervoets, the Provincial institute of secondary education of Ath, the École du futur (School of the future), the Provincial technical secondary school of Hainaut, a centre of excellence for hotel professions, the Athénée royal of Mons, the Athénée d'Auderghem.

Reception at the centre of excellence for hotel professions

The Dijon academy’s delegation continued its visit at the centre of excellence of the Province of Hainaut in Saint-Ghislain. Damien Canzittu is now presenting “the guidance-oriented approach" developed at the University of Mons along with the Province of Hainaut.

The Directorate of the General Administration of Education welcomed the representatives of Dijon academy in Brussels; an extremely fruitful discussion followed an analysis of the education system and the ongoing reform.

The Burgundian team was received in the beautiful wedding hall of the town hall by Ms Houdart, 1st Deputy Mayor for Education, Culture, Youth and Public Reading.

Several cultural visits came to close this programme: the BAM museum in Mons, the Saint Waltrude Collegiate Church and the belfry of Mons, a visit of the city centre of Brussels, ...

The participants in this Erasmus + mobility (made to measure by the ISA of the University of Mons, the backbone of this action, and the Europe International department of the GIP-FTLV de Bourgogne), made a very positive assessment of their internship which met the expected objectives, namely:

   - Knowledge and analysis of the functioning of the educational system in French-speaking Belgium

   - Discussions on the training and evaluation of teachers and management staff

   - Questions of school management and choice of indicators.

Many thanks to the University of Mons, to Professor Demeuse and to all his ISA team.
